Celebrating 50 Years

The year was 1964. The Yankees lost the World Series, Cassius Clay (later to become Muhammad Ali) defeats Sonny Liston in an epic boxing match, and gas was 25 cents a gallon! Before I talk about the business, I must talk about the man behind the business. My Grandfather and namesake, Dr. Anthony Charles Stefani. The son of an Italian immigrant, he grew up in a happy home on the East side of Detroit. As a youth, he excelled in just about anything he tried including many sports, football (varsity quarterback), baseball (star shortstop), and basketball.

He was a model student at St. Anthony's, earning high marks in every subject. He was also a very observant young man. He noticed all the men breaking their backs for an honest wage, but never really being able to get ahead. He really made the decision to pursue a different path when he landed a job carrying bricks up a ladder for the summer. He will never know exactly when he made that decision, but it sure would impact a lot of lives. So he worked full time and went to school, while juggling a budding family and became a Doctor of Optometry.

Fraser Optical opened in the Spring of 1964 at the intersection of 13 Mile and Groesbeck. Fraser Optical moved what would ultimately become the main office to 14 Mile and Groesbeck, which is where it still resides today. The business remains 100% family owned and grew from a single location to six locations around Metro Detroit. Dr. Anthony Stefani passed his business to his 3 sons in the 1990's and finally retired. He lives a happy life in Florida and Michigan. The 3 sons (Andy, Mike and Mark) continue to run the business successfully today.

It is an incredible accomplishment and privilege to have kept our doors open for the last 50 years.

Thank you to every single patient that has come through our doors.
